David Myers, a psychologist at Hope College in Michigan, has researched on surveys from 45 countries on how people view happiness. He found out that factors such as age, gender, race, education, and place of residence count very little in reporting happiness. Instead, Myers noted four traits that predict happiness, namely:
- Self-esteem- A healthy, upbeat view of oneself and one's capabilities.
- Sense of control- Exercising reason and judgement and applying them appropriately.
- Optimism- Being positive-minded even during negative or adverse moments.
- Outgoing personality- Having strong, active and uplifting relationships with others.
These are the real passports to inner bliss whatever status you have, or aim to have in life. Happiness stems from personality traits and not life circumstances.
