Metamorphosis

Most insects undergo "metamorphosis" -- a Greek word which means "change of  form". The greatest change in insects is seen in moths and butterflies. The small moth or butterfly egg hatches into crawling larva, or caterpillar. The caterpillar feeds until it grows to a certain size. Then it spins a covering around itself called a cocoon. A little more and it comes forth from under its wrappings as a beautiful butterfly flitting from flower to flower, drinking up delicious nectar.

I sometimes wonder why, if God wanted a butterfly, He didn't just snap His fingers and produce one? Why wait for all those stages? And then, I realize that God delights not only in the finished product, He delights too the metamorphosis. Just like He delights to see us changing from glory to glory, striving to become holy as He is holy.

Let us not be deceived into thinking that God will snap His fingers and make us perfect in our time.  He plays by His rules.
