Do What Is Right

There was a teacher  who taught mathematics in a university for many years, often he had this to say to his classes before he gave them an exam:

"Today I am giving two examinations--one in trigonometry and the other in honesty. I hope you will pass them both. If you must fail one of the exams, fail trigonometry. There are many good people in the world who cannot pass tirigo, but there are no good people in the world who cannot pass the examination of honesty."

Doing wrong always brings about some type of negative consequence. There might not be any immediate, outward punishment or bad fortune for the student who cheated, but the wrongdoing always generates something in the soul that--unless it is repeated of-- will become the seed for yet another act of wrongdoing. The teacher knew that for the student who failed the honesty test, outward consequences would eventually result.

By the same divine law, doing right always brings about positive results. The visible signs of blessing may take awhile to appear, but eventually they will.
